Woo, what a show!

Well, another show is in the books. And boy was it a good one. Thanks again to Lethal Sonic Cocktail and Gordon St. It made for a great night.

Hey, check this out! We have Merchandise! Or we have one item. See our handy, dandy, Æ stickers!

So it was a fun time with some great music that helped pick me up after a terrible week. But we're gonna do it all over again in a couple of days... there are still tickets for the Sunday show at Bogies (he says as though anyone is reading this).

For now, that's all... expect another update after the next show.

Continuing Progress...

So, the Bogies and the Northern Lights shows are now past. And that's about as nice as I feel like being about them right now. For as good as it was to play out, and for the highlights that we had at each show, there were as many pitfalls. And, being the giant bitch that I am, I made sure to voice those pitfalls to the respective booking agencies that set up the shows. Some of them were their problems, and some were problems with the house, but I got my bitch on with the higher-ups, and when I was done... they thanked me.

I just had to show them what it feels like from a grunts-eye-view of their shows.

So, in the interim between those shows and some stuff we've got just on the horizon (more on that later) we've been hard at work learning new material, re-learning old material, and even WRITING NEW MATERIAL! And in revisiting some songs that had fallen by the wayside along the way, we discovered something awesome in our cultivation of that countryfunk sound that we've been growing for a while. So look for a set of mostly new, or not-heard-in-a-while material with a bit of bomp-chicka-twang-twang...

So stay tuned and keep the faith. The Ernst Project will not be undergoing any long hiatus again soon (bears and bread trucks notwithstanding). Announcements of gigs are IMMINENT.

MOAR SHOWS!

Thanks to all for coming out to the show at Bogies last Friday. We had a blast playing there, even if it was a bit dark, dank, and Danzig for our tastes.

But we're not through folking you quite yet! We have another show coming up on Sunday, June 3rd at Northern Lights. Details just over there --->

As well as at least one upcoming show (and hopefully some more) we're putting the finishing touches on the live EP Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?, which will be released on absolutely no record label on whatever day we finish it.

As well, I've been in talks with our producer/engineer/wizard Denny on possibly renting, borrowing, or stealing the equipment to do some studio work right in the ManCave. Not exactly how I envisioned it, but Den is a true alchemist... turning shit into solid gold. So I'm pretty stoked about that possibility.

And lastly, as much fun as it was to jam with Travis Catalano again (and thanks one more time to him for filling in admirably) it would appear that our own David Grapka will be returning from his stint on the DL and coming back to practice this week.

The Revenge of the BEAR!

So, some time ago, our Dave had a run in with a viscous, man-eating Grizzly Bear. The thing was nearly 10 feet tall, had razor sharp claws, a bite that could easily take a mans head off...

The bear actually attacked Dave, and while I'm happy to say that Dave suffered no more than a scratch at the hands of the bear, the bear spent almost a month in recovery.

The bear, now knowing that it could never best Dave in martial combat, sought another way to exact his revenge. So, he ran Dave over in a stolen Freihoffer Bread truck.

Sadly, Dave suffered a rather nasty crack-- as he described it "it looks like the coast of Maine"-- to his hip. (See HERE)

Dave will be out for a while again while he deals with this, and we wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, a very old friend of mine, Mr. Travis Catalano will be stepping into his very large shoes and filling in while Dave recovers.

Travis played first Bass and then Drums in two different bands that I was in over the last decade. The other guys in The Ernst Project have all listened to his work on the demo tracks we did, and learned some of their parts from his work, so Trav is already a part of the sonic experience that is The Ernst Project. Now he'll be joining us in the flesh.

PS- The Bear is now serving 12-15 in a secure facility for Grand Theft Auto and Attempted Murder.

The bread truck, sadly, suffered catastrophic injuries, and while all was done to save it, it passed on to that great junkyard in the sky shortly after the collision.

The triumphant return of the smiling man...

There has been a Dave sighting! That's right, the big man returned to practice last night. It's a good thing too... I was beginning to think he'd gone soft on us. He's been out for over a month with what amounts to a paper cut-- a mere scratch! But I digress...

We had an awesome practice. Andy was away on his gastronomical adventures with southern cuisine, and Greg is still lost in Mordor... but the rest of us had a great time. Now that Scotty's had a bit of time to learn the material, it sounds really good with drums. Plus, through a contrivance of events, we managed to NOT reschedule band practice for when Lyssa was working, so we finally got some harmony back in the mix.

We're feeling good. Got the Bogies gig coming up on May 11, got a nod from The Brickyard Tavern when we inquired about hosting their open mic again, so look for that coming up sometime in May as well. We've almost got all the rough cuts back from the audio engineer for the live album/EP which I'm fairly certain will be called Are You Now or Have You Ever Been... So pretty soon I hope to go into serious edit mode and bang that sucker out in time to get at least a couple tracks into the hands of some clubs.

I'm Not Dead Yet...
I'm feeling much better.  I think I'll go for a walk...

So, for those that don't already know: We've been without Greg since before Christmas. Now, there have been many rumours as to his disappearance: alien abduction, touring with Elvis and Tupac, hip replacement surgery... they are all untrue. He actually went out for a walk on a clear, bright day in December and simply walked into Mordor. Now he cant get back out, and he gets shitty cellphone reception unless the eye is sleeping... which I'm told it very rarely does.

We're also currently without Dave. He got into a fight with a bear and even though he only suffered minor injuries he's milking it for a long as possible. So he'll be out for a little while. But it's okay, we forgive him. Sadly, the bear will need years of therapy after the incident, but will suffer no permanent physical injuries.

Because it gives us plenty of time to rehearse up the two newest additions to the band. There's nothing official yet... but I think we can pretty much put it down as wrote that we have two new members. The first is Andy... a Saxamaphone player. (He can also play Clarinet as well... so we're going to dig out some klesmer music). And Scott, a mighty-mighty BASS tone. So that's nice. Now Ian's left hand has nothing to do but [you know... I'm going to stop there... this is a family website].

So we're working on getting all of these elements into place... and it's sounding pretty good. We've been getting rough-cuts back from the live album we recorded over the summer at Red Square... so all is going well there. I was hoping to have something to at least tease by my birthday (HINT HINT DENNY) mid April.

Well, that's about all the time I have time for... er... something.

So, until there's real news... I'll be lurking.

Held Hostage by NASCAR
(Send in NATO, caffeine, and cookies...)

Well... I've seen fire, and I've seen rain... but I'm not gonna see the end of the Daytona 500 if they don't get moving again soon.

Thought I'd take a minute to update, since I'm held captive by the race that first wouldn't start, and now wont end.

So, lately, with Greg still lost in Mordor, and Dave dealing with a minor injury from wrestling a bear... we've been in a little bit of an odd space. But lately we've been rehearsing (and actually played an open mic) with a Saxophonist and a bassist, of all things. So we're currently getting them up to speed, and seeing if we all gel...

We were offered 3 shows at the end of last year that we could not do, and another one in April that I had to turn down... so it feels like were a little stagnant lately... but we're currently working to get all of our ducks in a row to rock out this spring/summer.

Also, the rough cuts of the show we recorded are coming along... I'm hoping to have something for this spring... maybe a birthday present to myself to get an April pre-release.

So, that's more than you asked me for, less than you deserve, and much more than you're likely to read.

January 26
This band is a bear... evidently, we hibernate come winter.  Well, last night we woke the hell up.

While Greggers has been MIA for the last couple of months (he simply walked into Mordor and now he cant get out), we had the good fortune of jamming with a friend that happens to play the saxamaphone. And let me tell you: a sax solo in the middle of Take Me Back is sure to cause the sort of spontaneous crowd reaction that would make Caligula proud.

Audience fornication aside, we had a good time shaking off the rust and making some furious noise. Not sure yet if a sax is something we're thinking about as a permanent item in the band... or an occasional guest... or a permanent guest... I dunno. The sky is the limit (or so we were mis-lead to believe when we were children.

Hopefully soon we'll have the completed, or at least complete-enough tracks from our show at Red Square to begin showing them off. I hope to have it completely buttoned up before the weather starts to turn, so we can have it out in time to get some spring and summer gigs.

So hopefully this is just the first spin of the heavy wheels of the train before they grab steel and haul ass down the tracks. Drop by the Facebook Page and give us some words of encouragement.

Keep on Folk-Rockin' in the free world!

September 19
Thanks to all that came out to the shows at The Brickyard and Red Square.  And a very special thank you to The Crowd Ninja who came to both.

September 16
Our time slot for the show has been finalized:  We're going on at 6:30pm.  Nice and early... so quit making excuses about it being a Sunday and just go, already.

September 15
Check out the new Jukebox, fools!

September 14
Thanks to all that came out for the Open Mic gig at The BrickYard. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. It was a blast, and we made some good connections.

Unrelatedly, we now have a PROMO CODE for Sundays show at Red Square ----------------->

August 28
In the midst of the sound and fury (and water... lots and lots of water) that we've come to know as Hurricane Irene, I managed to update the website: new photos in the top-of-page montage, a new band logo (which is our sexy new business card), and a link to our Facebook page (because I need another way to whore myself out.)

Head over there to check out some EXCLUSIVE CONTENT that I pieced together from a private show we did.

August 26
Thanks in part to our rocking the hell out of their Open Mic, a little schmoozing from the Almighty, and the fact that Dave knows literally EVERYONE, the Brick Yard has asked us to host their Open Mic Sept. 13

We go on at 7:30, Open Mic starts at 8pm.

Also, eventually the Main page will contain something other than a lame-ass blogish sidebar and our gigs.  But for now, we're shoving it in your face like you crapped on the carpet.

August 11
That's right... Those wonderful scalawags from Afton would like us to play Red Square again, on Sunday Sept 18th.  And you know what?

We.
Will.
Rock.
You.

August 8
Pics of the 7/31 gig at Red Square are up.

August 1
Thanks all who came out to the show at Red Square.  We had a great time and it lead to both the booking company and the club asking to have us back.

July 29
Sunday @ Red Square, we'll be going on at 8:00pm, but we'll be there for the whole event, so come on down and see the first bands starting at 6:30 and chill with us.  Be there by at least 7:30 in case we have to go on early due to a cancellation.

July 28
Nearly showtime people!  You can buy tix online right up 'till show time, but get em online and not at the door... it's $3 cheaper that way.

Also, either way you do it, let them know that your "favorite band" is The Ernst Project, so we get credit for your ticket.  Even if were not your favorite now, we will be... so just say it already.

July 5
Welcome to the Awesome List, Jaimie Buffa. Sorry it took so long.  I hadn't begged for money in a while so I forgot to look for it.  Oh well, better late than mauled in a combine harvester, I always say.

July 4
So, anybody that didn't order tickets by Saturday, you really screwed the pooch on that one, cos you missed the $3 off promo.  But, never fear, as a consolation prize, y'all can still get TWO DOLLARS OFF ADMISSION PRICE by using the promo code ERNST629 through July 12th... so... do that.

June 27
Hey all, only THREE DAYS LEFT to get $3 off the ticket price for the 7/31 show.

June 13
Finally had time yesterday to get the pics from the last practice up and captioned.  Enjoy.  Also, buy a ticket to our show.  I have nothing witty to add, I would just like to have an audience.

June 11
I've had a litany of issues getting the pictures from last practice off my phone, but now that I have, all I need to do is find the time to actually upload them to the site... be patient.

In other news, if you're planning on buying a ticket to our July 31 show at Red Square, now is the time.  Now through July 1st, get three dollars off the price of your ticket with the promo code ERNST093.

June 9
Awesome practice last night.  We ran through a setlist for what is now a confirmed show (look to your right... ) and it went very well.  Add to that an awesome special effects show from the heavens and dessert from a groupie and you've got a pretty good night.

Check out the details of the show, buy tickets and donate to us.

And pics from last night are forthcoming.  I had a spot of trouble trying to get them from my phone to a computer, and will give it another go tomorrow.

June 8
Practice tonight, and I'm gonna try to get some more pics for y'all.  In other news, Ben Chapelle donated to us again (for the third time!) So now I know that he's been to the site at least three times, which I think is more often than some of the band.

June 7
Praciced on Sunday 6/5, and actually have NEW PICS to show for it...

Also, you might want to keep your eyes on the GIGS PAGE.  There just may be something awesome there in the not-too-distant-future.

Also, I've been in talks with another studio about recording and production.  Hope to visit their studio soon and get the low-down.

May 18
Awesome practice last night.  Steve couldn't make it, and Dave was late to the party, but Ian, Greggers and I started working on a brand-spanking-new song.  I had started it a couple days earlier on a bass that is strung like a cello (on loan from everyones favorite Swedish meatball, Andrew Vackel), and we fleshed it out a bit before Dave came around and laid down some funky/fresh beats for it... very exciting.

May 5
Wow... long time, no update.  Well, things are moving along.  We're now set up and practicing in the ManCave, which is awesome, and we have a drum kit, and amplifiers, and EVERYTHING! Pictures to follow, I promise.

Also, you'll notice that there are some new names on the Awesome List, most notably those at the top.  If you want to unseat the Snells, then dig deep my friends, and give greatly.

March 25
MOAR DONATIONS!
A few new names got added to the Awesome List.  Although, Ben did say his was contingent upon us naming the band Ernie & Surprise Buttsecks... I already have his money, and my wife has made it clear that she will be in no way a part of Surprise Buttsecks... any way you look at it.

March 16
Had a meeting last night at a studio in Sloanesville.  It's a bit out there, I know, but not a bad little setup.  Hope to look at some more soon to compare, but not a bad start.

March 1
Today, I sold a pair of lift tickets donated by the inimitable JW Rathman, the proceeds of which are already in the album fund.  Thanks Jud.

Also, hopefully today, I'll have the Awesome List up and running... as a way to thank those non-band members that have contributed to the cause in some way.

February 25
A good practice last night.  We ran through the "homework" that we had, and even jammed in a little bit of country.  We'll see what becomes of that.

February 23
Practiced on a Monday night (2/21), in honor of it being Presidents Day, and also because Steve was in town, and he and Greg had missed the last practice.

Ian and Lyssa were absent from this practice, but Greg, Steve, Dave and I worked through some stuff we had done, a couple we hadn't, and made a solid plan for our second session for the week on Thursday, which I nearly bungled by forgetting that I had to work, but the universe smiled on us and canceled my shoot for Thursday... so all is well.

February 21
Evidentially, practice = snow, at least in the opinion of good ol' Mother Nature.  They should pay us to practice in the Sahara.  I'll let you know how tonight's practice goes.

February 18
Practice last night was good, even though Steve and Greg got waylaid.  We soldiered on without them and worked out some kinks, while entertaining the first of what I'm sure will be many groupies.

Finally got the PayPal account squared away and operational, so those of you that have made donations, I have accepted your funds, and I give many thanks.  They take a cut of everything, but free money is free money... if you'd rather not PayPal get their hands on any of it, you could always just give me cash.  Cash is always accepted.

Pictures of last night's practice should be available very soon.  I'll likely get to posting those on Monday, since My Tiny Wife will be out of town, and work will be exceedingly boring.

February 17
Minor tweaks and adjustments to the site today.
Maybe if I feel amitious I'll make a message board.
Either way, practice tonight, and I'm stoked.

February 16
The web-embryo officially got slapped on the ass and took its first breath today. Look, enjoy.

February 10
For the love of the gods... someone remind me to take pictures at band practice tonight...

ETA: Somone did.  There's actually a picture of me answering the phone when she called.

January 27
On the one hand: kinda bummed that the snow didn't reach us. On the other hand: tonight- band practice!

Janurary 26
"I'm hanging in there.
It's all I can do.
Although I cant remember whether to pray that the rope breaks, or holds.
I'm praying as hard as I can."

Maybe I haven't lost the ability to write after all.

Janurary 20
Well, we finally had a "meeting of the minds" last night, after a couple of snow-outs. Almost everyone was there, and I think there were a lot of positive vibes and good times shared. This just might work...

January 19
Thanks again to Mother Nature for canceling the inaugural meeting of the musicians... again. Hopefully weather, health, and schedules will align tomorrow.

January 11
It looks as though I've found a web host and a webmaster for this little album project of mine*... and on the cheap too... thing's keep looking up.
*It should have a name by next week.

Okay. Now I have a tentative Pianist, and bassist. That is, for those keeping score, a second bassist. And a confirmed Lead Guitarist!

ETA: The second bassist has since taken a post in Sweden... I'm not even kidding.  Also, the prediction that this project would have a name was wholly inaccurate. (2/16/11)

January 10
Bassist: check. Percussionist: check. So far, things are moving well on the album front.

January 5
Listening to one of my old bands, Whet, on our old myspace page in anticipation of the forthcoming album.

Formulating the Plan ...

It's that time of year again, and so it's time to see what we've made of last year... make promises to ourselves about next year, and break them this year.
Now, I had originally not intended to make a resolution, but I got thinking about one thing or another, and the fact that I turn 30 this year, and I decided that I would resolve to give myself a birthday present. Although it will happen after my birthday, and could take until after my 31st birthday... but, so be it.

I'm going to record an album. It's that simple. And not some on-my-pc, sounds-pretty-good, DIY recording... like I've done in the past. I'm going to start saving money, and hire someone to professionally record an album of my material. I'm gonna recruit people I know to help me prepare and rehearse, and have those same people play on the album with me. I want to make an honest-to-gods professional album.

I'm getting older, and my chances of stardom and fortune and fame are pretty slim... but this isn't really about that. I'd love to sell this commercially at some point, but for me it's more about putting out a piece of art that is actually good enough to be in my CD collection. Something that holds up against other artists. Something real, and beautiful, and honest.

In short... it's gonna be expensive, time consuming, and difficult. Just exactly the thing I need as a man with two houses, a wife, a full-time job, and (hopefully soon) children.

So, that's it... basically.

So... who wants to be investor Number 1?

Blah...g
